Abstract

This study measured the accessibility of public exercise facilities within a residental area of a metropolitan community and examined how the accessibility can affect physical activity participation of residents. Initially, a total of 639 residents, who were aged between 19-70, visited Metabolic Syndrome Management Center of the Community Public Health Center, and registered for a Obesity Clinic Program, was listed as potential subjects. And those who responded to Physical Activity Questionnaire were selected for the analyses (n=92, 14.3% of 639). The relationships between physical activity level and accessibility to public exercise facilities were analyzed. Objective distance to public facility was related to ‘volume of participation to vigorous physical activity(r=.209)’, 'total volume of participation to physical activity(r=.206)’. And perceived distance to public facility was related to ‘volume of participation to vigorous-intensity physical activity(r=.235)’. perceived transport time to public facility was related to ‘duration of participation to vigorous-intensity physical activity(r=.239)’, ’volume of participation to vigorous-intensity physical activity(r=.306)’, and ‘volume of participation to total physical activity(r=.273)’. In contrast, the difference between objective distance to public facility and perceived subjective distance to the facility was negatively related to ‘duration of participation to moderate-intensity physical activity(r=-.221)’. The perceived numbers of public facility was positively related to ‘frequency of participation to vigorous-intensity physical activity(r=.237)’, ‘frequency of participation to walking(r=.273)’, ‘volume of participation to walking(r=.251)’ and 'total volume of participation to physical activity(r=.252)’. The predictor of 'total volume of participation to physical activity was perceived numbers of public facility(R2=.153, p=.046). The results revealed that the subjective accessibility to public health facilities was more influential to physical activity participation than the objective accessibility. Further research was warranted while using diverse populations as well as considering a inclusion of environmental factors.

Abstract

There has been a growing advocacy for a critical approach to physical education teacher education(PETE) in the era of globalization and ubiquitous society. Drawing on critical pedagogy, the purpose of this paper was to explore the meanings and methods for developing critical professionalism in PETE through identifying the definitions and features of critical professionalism. The notion of critical professionalism includes four crucial components: critical reflection, social sensitivity, critical thinking, and practicability. This paper suggests an inquiry-oriented physical education teacher education to develop per-service teachers’ critical professionalism in terms of providing a range of teaching methods centered on microteaching, discussion-based lessons, critical reading and writing, and using media materials. Building on findings, it was concluded that there is a need of programs for the development of policy literacy understanding complex social and cultural contexts of school physical education. Furthermore, PETE should focus on the processes of critical reflection on the teaching and learning act itself within wider social contexts, by using an inquiry-oriented approach to PETE, which will contribute to fostering teachers’ critical capacities needed to guard the educational aims of physical education against political interference.

Abstract

Purpose In the field of sports industry, the intangible assets of sporting companies often show discrepancies between accounting information and corporate value because of conservative current accounting standards. Therefore, this study intends to present a valuation model of intangible assets of sports industry based on cost approach, as a part of a method of capitalizing intangible property expenditures. And we tried to verify the valuation model of intangible assets derived from the research on actual sports companies. Methods To accomplish the purpose of the study, reviewing the literature on various related precedent studies and examining related valuation methodology, legal basis, and representative valuation models were utilized. And to verify the effectiveness of the derived model, Tobin q values were derived and compared. A simple regression analysis was used to verify the explanatory power of the derived model. Results The financial evaluation was conducted based on the cost approach, which enables relatively objective evaluation through the existing financial statements, and a valuation model with the procedure of duplicating the AHP evaluation to reflect the characteristics of the individual intangible assets was presented. In addition, in order to verify the proposed valuation model, the valuation was conducted by putting the accounting information of the sports companies into the intangible asset valuation model presented in this study. As a result of the statistical analysis on the evaluation results, the intangible asset value evaluation model presented in this study is proved to be significant based on statistically high explanatory power. Conclusion Therefore, if it is possible to appropriately evaluate the enterprise value of sports companies through the intangible asset valuation model based on the cost approach presented in this study, various types of technology financing will be possible in the sports industry. And this is expected to accelerate the growth of the sports industry in the future.
