41 Relationships among sport-products self-congruence, product love, product trust, and purchase behavior of sports-for-all club members

Abstract

Purpose The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationships among sport-products self-congruence, product love, product trust, and purchase behavior of sports-for-all club members through structural equation model analysis. Methods A survey was conducted targetting 227, men & women in their twenties who are members of MTB, Tennis, Badminton, Golf in at the 8 in Seoul metropolitan area. For sampling method, convenience sampling method was used, while the questionnaire was self-administered. In an effort to verify the proposed structural model, this study used IBM SPSSWIN Ver. 21.0 and AMOS 18.0. Results First, actual self-congruence has positive influence on the product love. Second, ideal self-congruence didn't have positive influence on the product love. Third, social self-congruence has positive influence on the product love. Fourth, product love has positive influence on the product trust. Fifth, product trust has positive influence on the positive word-of-mouth. Sixth, product trust has positive influence on the repurchase intention. Seventh, product trust has positive influence on the attitudinal loyalty.

Abstract

Purpose The purpose of this study is to examine and propose the appropriate operation structure for the sports betting business in Korea(Sports Toto) by analyzing foreign cases. Methods To accomplish the purpose of this study, literature and case studies were conducted on preceding studies, the World Lottery Association compendium, and Internet data. Results The results were as follows. Firstly, in terms of competition, it was deducted that maintaining the monopoly method was appropriate among the monopoly, partial competition, and free competition methods. Secondly, as for the business operator, it was deducted reasonable to adopt the non-profit operation method between the non-profit operation and the for-profit operation methods. Also, it was identified as necessary to review the adequacy of the three-level redundant business management structure, which is rarely found abroad. Conclusions This study examined all the sports betting business operation structure of foreign countries presented so far, and deducted a new classification of operation structure considering the competition. The results of this study will be useful for policymakers to review the appropriateness of the Sports Toto’s operation structure more systematically and rationally.


43 An exploration on learning experience and teaching strategies of art and physical activities in free-semester system

Abstract

Purpose The purpose of this study was to understand learning experiences deeply and to prepare practical teaching strategies by reflecting the voices of the field. Methods For this, I used the logic and techniques of 'the grounded theory'. In particular, I used ‘the grounded theory paradigm model', which enables a holistic and systematic analysis of specific experiences to explore learning experiences and teaching strategies. I selected 10 male and female students who participated in art and physical activities as research participants. I collected data through literature review, in-depth interviews, and expert meetings, and analyzed using open coding, axial coding, and selective coding. Results First, I explored “the learning experience of art and physical activities in free-semester system", according to the elements of grounded theory paradigm model. It is composed of the ’causal condition’, ‘contextual condition’, ‘central phenomenon’, ‘interventional condition’, ‘interaction strategy’, and ‘results’. Second, based on this, I conducted "the teaching strategies for art and physical activities in free-semester system". These are composed of 'expansion strategy', 'diversity strategy', 'spontaneity strategy', and 'immersion strategy'. Conclusions The results of this study suggest that art and physical activities in free-semester system are leading to a positive change extended from the planned goals. In addition, various variables are structurally intertwined, and thus, it is considered that more strategic and systematic efforts are required in various dimensions for the successful application.


44 Exploring the educational meanings of pre-service PE teacher mentors' sports mentoring experience

Abstract

Purpose The purposes of this study were to examine the influence of a formal sports mentoring program on mentors(pre-service PE teachers), and to identify main factors affecting educational growth of the pre-service teachers. Methods Data were generated in this study using: In-depth interviews, mentoring observations, and document resources from 4 mentors and their mentees as research participants. The collected data were inductively analyzed as an iterative process of working back and forth between the data and the categories(Miles & Huberman, 1994). Results The key findings of this study are as follows. First, mentors developed pre-service teachers’ practical knowledge including teaching knowledge, environment knowledge, student knowledge within teaching contexts. Furthermore, they practiced mentee-centered education through sports mentoring not only by mentees but also for mentees. Second, with respect to the factors impacting mentors’ educational growth, there were two main factors; the systematic structure of a program and mentors’ reflexivity. Mentors improved practical knowledge through the circular ‘experiential learning’ phases the sports mentoring program provided. In addition, mentor had valuable opportunities to learn how to care mentees by reflecting on positive and negative influences deriving from interactions with their mentees. Conclusion Potential benefits were embedded in inherent nature of sport and the unique structure of mentoring. sports mentoring can provide experience of learner-friendly teaching distinct from classes of lecture type. It is necessary to be reconsidered as pre-service PE teacher education program with opportunities of other teaching practice.


45 A grounded theory on instructor’s adaptation process of school physical education environment in middle school sports club

Abstract

Purpose The purpose of this study is to explore the Instructor’s adaptation process of school P.E. environment in middle school sports club and to develop substantive level theory. Methods For this purpose, 17 sports instructors who had worked for more than 3 years at the middle school in Seoul were selected as research participants. The method of this study is the Grounded theory(Strauss & Corbin, 1990). Results The results of this study are as follows. First, as a result of open coding, the instructor's adaptation process of the school P.E. environment was organized into 104 concepts, 30 sub-categories, and 15 categories. Second, as a result of axial coding, a paradigm model for the adaptation process of the school P.E. environment was formed. Third, as a result of the selective coding, created the storyline of the adaptation process and made the core category, ‘instructor's adaptation process of the school P.E. environment in middle school’. Four types of adaptation process such as 'Acceptance type', 'Effort type', 'Compromising type' and 'Abandoning type' are derived through the formalization applied to the hypothesis of the core category. Conclusions Based on these results, the developed substantive level theory was evaluated and summarized.

Abstract

Purpose This study aims at investing the educational meanings of school physical education policy by analyzing the direction (ideal goal, goal, objective and program) of the policy in Korea and England. Methods The comparative research design was conducted by the policy literature analysis. In order to clarify the significance of the main discourse embedded the school physical education policy to the educational practice, I used qualitative content analysis based on the interpretive paradigm. Results The school physical education policy in Korea is divided into goal for general students and student athletes for 'happy students and school life', while the policy in England seeks to promote participation of competitive sports through school-community linkage for lifelong sports participation. As a result of the discourse analysis, the ambiguity of school physical education policy due to the complexity of various discourses (e.g. moral development, health, sports) diminishes the effectiveness of policy implementation as well as the teachers’ educational practice. In addition, competition sports discourse has been analyzed to limit the participation of many students in sports and to adversely affect lifelong participation in sports. Conclusions In conclusion, It is necessary to activate theoretical and empirical research that is the basis of building the school physical education policy direction and to establish cooperative governance for the policy implementation. In addition, student participation in lifelong sports and evidence-based policy making and practice are required.


47 “Sport herstory”: The research trends and tasksin Korean women’s sport history, 2007~2016

Abstract

[Purpose] This study aims to examine the research trends in Korean women’s sport history and provide suggestions for future research by reviewing journal articles conducted in the last ten years (2007-2016). [Methods] The articles were selected from the Korean Journal of History for Physical Education, Sport, and Dance, which is the only, representative sport history journal in South Korea. 66 articles identified as studies of women’s (or women-related) sport history were analyzed in five categories, including a) period, b) theme/topic, c) purpose, d) method, and e) country. [Results] Specifically, the analysis by period showed that 90% of the research focused on modern and contemporary history, while only 7% of the research was set in pre-modern history. According to the analysis by theme/topic, genre has been studied most often with 36%, followed by figure (20%) and facility/institution/organization (15%). By the criteria of purpose, it was found that the majority of the research (48%) focused on historical evolution and transition, while the research on comparison/relation was of little scholarly interest. Regarding the category of method, textual analysis was used most often, with 70% followed by oral life history (27%). By the criteria of country, the largest ratio of papers studied Korea (75%) while only 3% of studies examined other East Asian countries, such as China or Japan. Comparative, diasporic, or transnational studies were the second most popular subcategory (11%). [Conclusion] According to the results, it was acknowledged that there has been a significant lack of interest in women’s sport history by Korean scholars and “sport herstory” is largely underresearched. In addition, the excessive concentration on a specific period or a particular theme was also exposed. To rectify the biased research practice and promote scholarly growth and enhancement in both academia of Korean women’s sport history and Korean sport history, it is necessary to consider the expansion of historical materials, application of new methodology, cross-disciplinary conversation, and theorization in studying women’s sporting experiences.

48 A study on the integrated management system of public sports facilities based on IoT technology

Abstract

Purpose This study aims to suggest the application of IoT-based integrated management system to public sports facilities(PSF) in order to improve the utilization and management of PSF by analyzing the actual state of PSF empirically. Methods A survey was administered to managers(n=279) and users(n=500) of PSF in order to identify problems of current management and collect suggestions for improving the utilization and management of PSF. Previous research on establishing IoT-based system was also reviewed for considering the effectiveness of IoT technology. Results Generally, PSF are in low utilization and operate in a deficit. The deficit operation is caused by high labor costs and management expenses. The survey result shows that there are many problems in management and utilization such as lack of equipment, deteriorated facilities, shortage of manpower and funding, limited programs, difficulties in promotion. The result also shows that PSF need to consider developing local demand-based programs, reducing management costs, extending opening hours, improving online booking system. Conclusion To solve the problems of PSF in utilization and management, this study suggests that IoT-based integrated management system needs to be applied to PSF. It is expected that applying IoT-based integrated management system to PSF would improve operational effectiveness, ease of facility management, and user convenience.


49 Development of PE classes applying flipped learning strategies: Based on sportscasting model

Abstract

Purpose The purpose of this study was (1) to develop and to apply flipped learning strategies in Physical Education(PE) classes based on Sportscasting Model and (2) to examine the responses of students after PE lesson. Methods Participants were 10th high school students(N=216, male=115, female=101) in high school. Instruction strategies of flipped learning was developed after theoretical investigation, and the unit plans for curling and instructional materials were developed and applied. Open-ended questionnaires and in-depth interviews were used to collect the data. Qualitative content analysis combined with of structures in lesson was used to analyze the data. Results Results showed that (1) 11 instruction strategies of flipped learning were developed, (2) and the unit plan combining out-of class activities and in-class activities organically based on Sportscasting Model and instructional materials for unit of curling were developed and applied. In step of sportscasting, forcing relationship method-sportscasting based on the survey of students was developed and applied. (3) And 31 factors of Sportscasting Model and 15 factors of flipped learning were drawn from the analysis of questionnaires and interviews. Conclusion And to conclude, this research has a value of early study to develop and apply instruction strategies of flipped learning, the unit plan and instructional materials for combining Sportscasting Model with flipped learning organically. Discussions were provided in terms of the development of flipped learning applied in PE classes and responses of students.


50 Exploring the Impacts of a Girl-Friendly Integrated Program on Elementary Students' Physical Education Participation

Abstract

Purpose The purpose of this study was to examine students’ perceptions of girls’ participation in physical education(PE) in elementary schools and examine the impacts of a girl-friendly integrated program on children’s participation in PE classes. Methods The participants were 10 fifth graders (5 girls and 5 boys) and their teacher in an elementary school. Data which were collected from in-depth interviews with students, students’ journal entries, field observation, and teacher’s reflective journal entries were analyzed inductively. Results Findings revealed that boys perceived girls’ participation as passive, possessing a low level of skills, and staying at the peripheral position. Meanwhile girls expressed their desire to demonstrate their strengths in PE classes and were afraid of boys’ criticism regarding their lack of skills. There were also misconceptions and misunderstanding on girls’ PE participation between boys and girls. In order to resolve these issues, a girls-friendly integrative program was designed. based on the four guiding principles drawn from students’ perception: (1) from ignorance to interest, (2) from misunderstanding to understanding, (3) from sport skills to sport values, and (4) from competition to cooperation. The program integrated boys and girls for promoting active interaction and also integrated competence, knowledge, and dispositions to accommodate students’ various ways of PE participation. Findings revealed that the program had: (1) diversified students’ perceptions of PE participation, (2) promoted students’ diverse and active participation, and (3) established classroom atmosphere which emphasized positive values.
