Purpose The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of parents’ involved dance-sports program on a physical activity level and a fitness of children with a developmental disability and on their parents’ perception. Methods The participants were seven children with a developmental disability ranged between 8 and 16 years and seven parents of them participating in the dance-sports program during 90 minutes, 3 times per week for 8 weeks. The quantitative data (i.e., the physical activity level, the physical fitness, and the questionnaire) were collected before and after the intervention. Results The results showed that there was statistically significant difference of the parents’ perception on children’s participation in a physical activity [F=5.63, P<.04]. Although the experimental group showed increase trend, whereas the control group showed decrease trend, there was no statistically significant difference of the physical activity level and the physical fitness of the children with development disabilities. Conclusions Parent participated dance sports program seems to be effective on parents’ perception on children’s participation in a physical activity, physical activity level and the physical fitness of the children with a development disability in experimental group.
Purpose The purpose of this study was to examine students’ perceptions of girls’ participation in physical education(PE) in elementary schools and examine the impacts of a girl-friendly integrated program on children’s participation in PE classes. Methods The participants were 10 fifth graders (5 girls and 5 boys) and their teacher in an elementary school. Data which were collected from in-depth interviews with students, students’ journal entries, field observation, and teacher’s reflective journal entries were analyzed inductively. Results Findings revealed that boys perceived girls’ participation as passive, possessing a low level of skills, and staying at the peripheral position. Meanwhile girls expressed their desire to demonstrate their strengths in PE classes and were afraid of boys’ criticism regarding their lack of skills. There were also misconceptions and misunderstanding on girls’ PE participation between boys and girls. In order to resolve these issues, a girls-friendly integrative program was designed. based on the four guiding principles drawn from students’ perception: (1) from ignorance to interest, (2) from misunderstanding to understanding, (3) from sport skills to sport values, and (4) from competition to cooperation. The program integrated boys and girls for promoting active interaction and also integrated competence, knowledge, and dispositions to accommodate students’ various ways of PE participation. Findings revealed that the program had: (1) diversified students’ perceptions of PE participation, (2) promoted students’ diverse and active participation, and (3) established classroom atmosphere which emphasized positive values.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of National Fitness Award program group exercise classes on daily fitness and balance-confidence among the elderly participants(n=496, 80.2% women). This study investigated body composition, daily fitness, and balance-confidence, and quality of life among the subjects who participated in the combined exercise program of improving physical fitness class for 8-week in the 10 national physical fitness certification centers by the demonstration project for the elderly of 2013 Korean National Fitness 100 project. Body composition and physical fitness for daily living were defined by Korean National Fitness 100 project for elderly, also the balance-confidence and health-related questionnaires were added. The following results were obtained by comparing the pre-test and post-test. In body composition body weight (p<.05), body mass index (p<.05), fat mass (p<.01), and percent body fat (p<.05) were significantly decreased, but muscle mass was not. Except for walking-around-two-cones-in-a-figure 8, all other daily fitness items such as relative grip strength (p<.001), chair sit to stand, two minutes place to walk, and sit-and-reach significantly increased (p<.01), and timed up and go were significantly decreased (p<.01). In balance confidence rating ABC tests (p<.001) were shown significantly increased. Although, quality of life measured by EQ-5D was not significantly improved, self-health status measured by EQ-VAS (p<.001) showed significant increase. Therefore, the group exercises of National Fitness Award program improved body composition, daily fitness and balance confidence in Korean elderly participants.
This study aims to find the alternative to increase the participation rates of physical activities and to analyze socio-demographic factors that determine sporting participation in Korea. We estimates the sporting participation model with ʼ2012 national sport participation survey in Korea' and binary logit analysis. The results are as follows: sporting participation is positively related to gender(male), age, education level, household income, health status, leisure time in weekday, proximity to public and private sports facilities. The most significant factors influencing the raising the participation rates of physical activities factors are age and proximity to sports facilities. Therefore, to make many people to participate in sports activities, we need to supply the public sports facilities that in proximity to house and the facilities needs to be taken into participant's age such as elderly group. Also, we make effort to improve the accessibility to sports facilities of poor and unhealthy people.
PURPOSE This study aims to examine the mediating effect of viewing flow on the relationship between perceived authenticity among [Kick A Goal] female viewers’ and football participation intention. METHODS A total of 414 questionnaires were distributed to [Kick A Goal] female viewers, aged from 20s to 60s, who had no experience in football. Among the collected questionnaires, the data used for the final analysis was 338 after data cleaning. The data analysis was conducted using SPSS 25.0, and it included frequency analysis, descriptive statistics analysis, correlation analysis, simple regression analysis, and a three-step mediation analysis proposed by Baron & Kenny(1986). RESULTS This study’s results were as follows: First, the perceived authenticity of female viewers positively affected viewing flow. Second, the viewing flow of female viewers positively affected their football participation intention. Third, viewing flow fully mediated the relationship between perceived authenticity and football participation intention. CONCLUSIONS In summary, this study suggests that it is significant to produce programs with authenticity and maximize viewing flow to further enhance the intention of female viewers to participate in football.
PURPOSE This study aimed to prove the mediator effect of skill level on participation frequency and injury level of leisure sports players with the highest injury rate. METHODS Raw data of the “2019 Sports Safety accident data” conducted by the Korea Sports Safety Foundation were used for this study. We analyzed 857 leisure sports players participating in events with the top four highest injury rates (Basketball, Soccer, Baseball/Softball, Foot Volleyball). Frequency, descriptive statistics, and correlation analyses using SPSS version 27.0 and Process macro model 4 were employed for analysis. RESULTS The results regarding participation frequency, injury severity, and skill level among recreational athletes are as follows. First, a positive correlation was established between the participation frequency of recreational athletes and their skill levels. Second, the correlation between participation frequency and injury severity was observed only in soccer and basketball. Third, skill level plays a mediating role in the relationship between participation frequency and injury level. The results indicate that as the participation frequency among leisure sports players who participate in ball sports with a high injury rate increases, this affects the degree of injury. CONCLUSIONS Skill level appears to play a mediating role in the relationship between participation frequency and injury level. Based on the results, we recommend safety education not only on the relationship between participation frequency and injury level, but also the intermediary role of skill level.
Purpose The aim of this study was to examine how middles school students in physical education class perceived relations between parental and teacher’s autonomy support, enjoyment, self-efficacy, academic effort, and P · E class flow. This study also investigate the mediating effects of enjoyment, self-efficacy, and academic effort on the relations between parental autonomy support and P · E class flow and between teacher’s autonomy support and P · E class flow. Methods For this study, 323 middle school students completed surveys to measure their perceptions of parental and teacher’s autonomy support, enjoyment, self-efficacy, academic effort, and P · E class flow. SPSS 24.0 was used to calculate descriptive statistics, reliability, and correlations. Amos 22.0 was utilized for confirmatory factor analysis, convergent validity, discriminant validity, and structural equation modeling. Additionally, 2000 bootstrap samples were requested for the mediation effect analysis. Results First, parental autonomy support was positively predictive of enjoyment and self-efficacy. Second, teacher’s autonomy support positively influenced enjoyment and self-efficacy. Third, enjoyment and self-efficacy positively affected academic effort. Forth, academic effort was positively related to P · E class flow. Fifth, there were partial mediating effects of enjoyment, self-efficacy, and academic effort on the relationship between parental autonomy support and P · E class flow. Lastly, there were partial mediating effects of enjoyment, self-efficacy, and academic effort on the relationship between teacher’s autonomy support and P · E class flow. Conclusions The study found that teachers' autonomy support was stronger predictive of student’s P · E class flow in physical education class than parent's autonomy support was. The finding is meaningful in that it is worth providing and utilizing practical knowledge from an educational perspective.
Recent research on exercise and affect has examined participants` affective changes during and after exercise with a longitudinal approach. With regard to this viewpoint, a theoretical model (Dual Mode model) has been presented to explain the different change of affect in an exercise setting and the model identified the impact of psychological factors on the affective changes. However, not only there is little empirical studies on the dual-mode model, but some relevant research has used an inappropriate statistical method (ANOVA), which cannot effectively explain the overall trends in affective change during and after exercise. Exiting research has a limitation to generalize the DM model examining only a certain gender such as active male or inactive female participants. Thus, the aim of present study was to investigate the effect of intrinsic motivation on affective change during and after exercise in participants who do not take part in regular exercise considering gender based difference. 51 inactive university students (M: 36, F: 15) responded a survey measuring intrinsic motivation for running activity and participated in moderate-intensity running exercise to examine affective change during exercise. Therefore, present study examined the influence of intrinsic motivation as a psychological variable on the trend of affective changes during and after exercise based on the dual mode model. Results from the latent curve model analysis revealed that there were decreasing trends of affect during exercise and the trends were individually different. Importantly, the decreasing trends were weaker in the participants with higher intrinsic motivation[FL=-.34, p=.000]. Additionally, participants` affective responses were positively changed after the exercise in general, but the changes were not influenced by intrinsic motivation. Therefore, the decreasing trend of affective change during exercise was weaker in the participants with higher intrinsic motivation, and the positive change in affect after exercise was not influenced by intrinsic motivation.
The purpose of this study was to investigate structural characteristics and participants` roles & functions of sport policy network in Korea, by social network analysis on structural characteristics of sport policy network and AHP analysis on participants` roles and functions. For that, 21 executive officers from 19 organizations and agencies related to sports policy were selected as study subjects, and, the materials collected from whole twice surveys on them were analysed by Ucinet 6 and Expert Choice 2000 program. As the results, the governmental organizations like the Blue House and Ministry of CultureㆍSports and Tourism composed the central position group of sport policy network of Korea, and took the main functions of planing and arrangement within their main roles of policy agenda formation and policy decision, so, sport policy network of Korea could be called centralized network by government. And, in cases of private agencies, Korea Sports Council composed the central position group only in policy network of professional sport, Korea Council of Sport for All of sport for all, and Korea Sports Association for the Disabled of disability sport, and, each of them took the main roles and functions of policy execution in their fields, so, it was obvious that the private agencies were divided into their own sport policy areas.
PURPOSE This study aimed to verify the differences in anticipated regret and gambling discontinuance intent based on the fear appeal type and source similarity in different types of horse-racing gamblers. METHODS Using convenience sampling, 172 responses were collected from horse-racing participants who bought horseracing tickets within the last 6 months. After eliminating 30 insincere responses, descriptive, correlation, reliability, and two-way multivariate covariance analyses were conducted using SPSS Ver. 26.0. RESULTS Anticipated regret and discontinuance intent were higher under fear appeal using social compared with financial risk. Compared to recreational gamblers, problem gamblers had higher anticipated regret and discontinuance intent under fear appeal using social compared with financial risk. There were no differential impacts of source similarity on anticipated regret and discontinuance intent in both types of gambler. CONCLUSIONS Practitioners in charge of conducting messaging campaign to prevent addiction to horse-racing gambling may cause problem gamblers to expect regret and quit gambling by delivering preventive messages with relatively unfamiliar risks such as social risks, rather than familiar risks such as financial ones.
