Abstract

Purpose The purpose of this study was to explore the process of participation in the PEAK program of collegiate athletes based on grounded theory. Methods In-depth interviews were conducted with 12 athletes from Y University who were registered in Korea Taekwondo Association. The collected data were analyzed by using the open coding, axis coding, and selective coding of the grounded theory, completed the paradigm model among the extracted concepts, and extracted the core categories through the story outline. Results As the result of data analysis, 'participating in the PEAK program' was found as the central phenomenon, and the causal situation was 'bad attitude in class' and 'helpless daily life'. The contextual conditions were 'recognition of the need for class participation and dual career' and 'motivation to participate in the program', and the intervening conditions were 'factors that hinder participation in the program' and 'factors that help program participation'. The action/interaction strategies were ‘caring climate’ and ‘promoting transfer’, and depending on the consequence, ‘learning attitude change’ and ‘life skill change’ appeared. Conclusion Participants improved their learning attitude through the PEAK program and confirmed the possibility of life skills transfer. It is hoped that this study can lead to implementation of various studies and discussions about life skills and transfer.

Abstract

Purpose The purpose of this study is to explore the trend of K league exodus and its factors. Methods Qualitative case study was conducted by selecting 9 footballers and 7 their agents as the participants who have migrated from South Korea to China and the Middle East. Results The factors of migration were categorized as three push and pull factors such as economy (individual income and club's profit), policy (employment for foreign and military service) and environment (markets in home and abroad). To understand sport migration in the economic factor, there should be the environmental condition (overseas market) to pay high salaries and transfer fee to individuals and their clubs, and at the same time, the domestic market should be relatively poor environment. In addition, this study overcame limitations of economic and environmental factors by classifying Asian quota system and military service into political factor, and found the specificity (local context) of K league. Conclusions In conclusion, this study can be regarded as the first empirical work on sport labor migration in Korea and valuable as basic data of follow-up studies.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of carbon nanotube-based insole on the resultant joint moment and muscle activity of the lower extremity during drop landing. Ten males with no known musculoskeltal disorders were recruited as the subjects. Two digital camcorders and one force plate were used to obtain 3-D kinematics and kinetics of the lower extremity. To assess the myoelectric activities of selected muscles, five surface electrodes were attached to the right side of the lower extremity. For each dependent variable, paired t-test was performed to test if significant difference existed between with carbon nanotube-based insole(CNT) and ethylene vinyl acetate-based insole(EVA) conditions(p<.05). The results showed that average and peak IEMG values from RF, TA, MG, and LG in CNT were lower than corresponding values in EVA. Although no significant difference in resultant joint moment was found between two conditions, a decrease in the knee extension moment was found with CNT. This indicates that wearing carbon nanotube-based insole may help to decrease impact force and to control excessive flexion movement of the knee joint during landing.
