PURPOSE This study reviews the operational status of the four courses that comprise the 'International Referee Development Program' in 2022 and 2023, analyzes participant satisfaction and feedback, and derives policy implications for the program’s future direction from the perspective of its operators. METHODS To achieve the study objectives, a literature review was conducted, survey items were developed, and expert meetings were held. RESULTS The four sub-courses within the 'International Referee Development Program' were analyzed by comparing modifications made between 2022 and 2023, evaluating satisfaction survey results, and identifying operational improvements. From the operators’ perspective, the study emphasized the urgency of conducting a comprehensive review of the scope of sports included in the referee development program, establishing clear evaluation criteria for selecting and monitoring focus areas, enforcing sanctions for dropouts under the current format and maximizing outcomes through long-term support. CONCLUSIONS It is expected that by establishing more macro-level and practical key performance indicators (KPIs) under the guidance of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and the Korea Sports Promotion Organization, the program’s continuity and direction will be maintained, even in the event of changes in responsible personnel.
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of perceived organizational support of high school football players on innovative performance. Of particular note, we focused on examining the mediation effect of self-management between perceived organizational support and innovative performance. METHODS A total of surveys returned was 137 and the data used for the final analysis was 130. The data was processed using SPSS 21.0 statistical program and Lisrel 9.2 for confirmatory factor analysis. RESULTS The results of the analysis were as follows: first, perceived organizational support of high school football players had a positive effect on players’ self-management. Second, players’ self-management had a positive effect on players’ innovative performance. Third, players’ self-management fully mediated between perceived organizational support and players’ innovative performance. CONCLUSIONS The study concluded that maximizing both perceived organizational support and self-management of the high school football players are necessary in order for the organization to achieve high level of innovative performance.
Purpose The purpose of this study was to conduct a typological classification of female college students in sport studies regarding perceived career barriers. Methods Q-methodology was used to identify female college students’ viewpoints on carrier barriers. The Q sample was distilled from 76 statements (64 from literature reviews and 12 in-depth interviews) to 25 statement after conducting literature review, in-depth interviews and surveys with open-ended questions. The P sample for this study was 30 students around Seoul and PQmethod software was used for data analysis. Results Three distinct views were extracted: First type of ‘career opaque’, revealed that students have failed to find their own aptitude and interest. Second type of ‘sexual discrimination-male centered’, implied students’ concerns about discriminating factors in relation to marriage and pregnancy for the job they desire. Third type of ‘Insufficient experience and qualification’, indicates students perceive their lack of experience or qualification required for their career. Conclusions The identification of these three viewpoints could provide insights that can be used to design more segmented and detailed career policies for female college students in sport studies.
PURPOSE This study aimed to investigate the current status of KADA’s chaperone management in order to suggest policy proposals for the establishment of a stable and sustainable chaperone pool. METHODS We conducted a literature review and document analysis, along with formal and informal dialogues with experts to supplement the data that could not be obtained through these methods. RESULTS This study suggested practical ways for KADA to establish a chaperone pool by leveraging the government’s volunteer platform and collaborating with universities that have sports-related departments across Korea. In addition, it proposed specific approaches to promote and encourage university students to engage with chaperoning. CONCLUSIONS It is anticipated that this study will facilitate the implementation of the proposed policies in the field of sports and position KADA as a model for other NADOs in terms of chaperone pool composition.
PURPOSE This study aims to examine the mediating effect of viewing flow on the relationship between perceived authenticity among [Kick A Goal] female viewers’ and football participation intention. METHODS A total of 414 questionnaires were distributed to [Kick A Goal] female viewers, aged from 20s to 60s, who had no experience in football. Among the collected questionnaires, the data used for the final analysis was 338 after data cleaning. The data analysis was conducted using SPSS 25.0, and it included frequency analysis, descriptive statistics analysis, correlation analysis, simple regression analysis, and a three-step mediation analysis proposed by Baron & Kenny(1986). RESULTS This study’s results were as follows: First, the perceived authenticity of female viewers positively affected viewing flow. Second, the viewing flow of female viewers positively affected their football participation intention. Third, viewing flow fully mediated the relationship between perceived authenticity and football participation intention. CONCLUSIONS In summary, this study suggests that it is significant to produce programs with authenticity and maximize viewing flow to further enhance the intention of female viewers to participate in football.
PURPOSE This study aims to identify how the [Goal Kicking Women] TV program has changed the perceptions of male viewers on women’s football. METHODS Using a qualitative research design, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 8 male viewers who are in their 50s. Thematic analysis was used to draw implications from the interviews. RESULTS Results show that having watched [Goal Kicking Women], 1) participants have become more familiarized with women playing football; 2) participants’ initial stereotype about women’s alleged inferiority in football has changed, as the performance of female stars in the program, who did not have any experience playing football, improved; and 3) the genuine passion that female stars showed for football made participants think that women’s football was just as good as men’s. CONCLUSIONS This study provides practical and academic implications, as it identifies men’s perceptions on women’s football and analyzes the influence of [Goal Kicking Women]. To conclude, establishing a foundation for planning and implementing effective policies to promote women’s football in South Korea is recommended.
PURPOSE This study aims to provide policy recommendations for the development of women’s football and the enhancement of the Women’s University Football League (WUFL) by examining participant satisfaction and meaningfulness of football. METHODS To achieve this goal, we distributed survey questionnaires, including 5-point Likert scale and open-ended questions, and subsequently analyzed 153 responses using qualitative data analysis software, N-vivo. RESULTS Our findings reveal that female students actively engaged in the WUFL express high overall satisfaction. Furthermore, participants perceive football as a source of happiness, an energy booster, and a platform for new experiences. Their involvement in football goes beyond typical leisure; it is regarded as a form of serious leisure. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS Based on these results, we propose actions such as fostering and elevating amateur women’s competitions, promoting female students’ participation in football, and developing a comprehensive strategy for increasing women’s enjoyment of playing football.
PURPOSE This study presents policy proposals based on literature review and document analysis in relation to sport concussion. METHODS Online documents were collected from sports organizations of the United States, the United Kingdom, and South Korea that either supervise sports concussion management policies or govern specific sports at different levels. RESULTS The results and implications of the study were as follows. First, safety education on sports concussion should be strengthened quantitatively and qualitatively, be required by all sports stakeholders, and will need to be executed by utilizing new technology platforms. Second, sports governing bodies must present a concussion safety policy tailored to each sport by distinguishing between youth and professional sports. Finally, discussions regarding the legalization of domestic sports concussion safety policies should take place in a timely manner. CONCLUSIONS These precautionary approaches would contribute to raising awareness on concussions in sports and help build a safer environment for sports.
PURPOSE This study analyzed the KSPO women’s sports leadership program and foreign cases to suggest policy proposals. METHODS A literature review was conducted involving official webpage of the programs, related technical reports, media resources, and academic articles collected from international and domestic research databases. RESULTS The major results are as follows: (1) The curriculum of current program should be examined and reconstructed to achieve the intended purpose. (2) Since selfawareness is a key factor in demonstrating effective leadership, implementing selfawareness training program should be considered. (3) Mentoring is regarded to be an effective tool in promoting women leadership; therefore, establishing sustainable women mentoring program is required. CONCLUSIONS Despite several limitations, this paper is the first study, to the best of our knowledge, to review and analyze the KSPO women’s sports leadership program comparing foreign cases for the purpose of seeking improvement. As women’s leadership in the field of sport would become even more important in the future, this program should be redesigned to be able to train and nurture leaders so that they can progress to the higher level of decision making in sport organizations.
