11 Network-Agent systems dynamic modelling: A guide for sport science

Abstract

Purpose The primary purpose of this study is to show and guide how to construct a large variety of behaviors in systems dynamic for sport science. Methods By applying a simple algorithm to networked agents, which could, conceivably, offer a straightforward way out of the complexity, computational mechanism which along with its dynamics (payoff, failure, and strategy) involved. Results The model starts with the probability that systemic risk potential such as failure spreads. Even in a very random structure commonly used in sports field, propagation of the potential is guaranteed by an arbitrary network property of a set of elements. Despite the intensive systemic potential, the opposite type of potential like absence of failure could also be driven when there has been a strong investment in protection through a heuristically evolved protection level. Conclusion The implementation still needs to be polished against what happens in the real sports world, but in general, applied conceptual principle and methodological techniques behind the network-agent based mechanisms could be useful for researchers those who need to use systemes dynamic to guard in sport science.


12 A Study on Child Abuse of Children with Disabilities in Adapted Physical Education

Abstract

PURPOSE This study aimed to develop the theory of child abuse of children with disabilities in Adapted Physical Education (APE). METHODS A grounded theory study was conducted based on a constructivist approach. Data were collected via in-depth interviews. Participants were 20 instructors selected based on theoretical sampling. The collected data were analyzed in the order of open coding, axial coding, and selective coding. RESULTS First, the direct causal conditions of abuse of children with disabilities in APE were the instructors’ and guardians’ distorted perception towards the disabled children along with the individual vulnerability of children with developmental disabilities. Second, the contextual conditions that form the background of the abuse of children with disabilities in APE included the burden of the instructor due to the unjust demands of the guardian of the child, the growth background of the instructor, and the repressive atmosphere of APE. Third, abuse of children with disabilities can be divided into three types: ‘active abuse’ based on the instructor’s distorted viewpoint of the child with a developmental disability, ‘passive abuse’ due to the unjust demands of the guardian, and ‘passive abuse’ due to the structural problems in the APE field. Fourth, the abuse of children with disabilities in APE, which can be distinguished by different characteristics, affects the instructor’s inner conflict and self-reflection. CONCLUSIONS This study approached the phenomenon of abuse of children with disabilities in Korean adapted physical education as a grounded theory, and the theory generated is expected to contribute to the establishment of strategies necessary to design adapted physical education in keeping with human rights.


13 Sport Commitment in Student-athletes : Examining the Role of Perceived Autonomy Support, a Caring Climate, and Basic Psychological Needs

Abstract

PURPOSE For student-athletes to be able to successfully dedicate themselves to training and competition, the following key factors play an important role: The coach, team climate, and individual motivational characteristics. To test this hypothesis, the structural relationships between having a perceived autonomy support, a caring climate, basic psychological needs, and sport commitment were analyzed. METHODS Participants were 297 high school athletes registered with the Korea Olympic Committee (203 males, 94 females, Mage=17.88 years). Data were collected using sports climate questionnaires for autonomy support, caring climate scale, basic psychological needs scale, and sport commitment measurement. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and structural equation modeling. RESULTS The model’s fitness was indicated by x2/df=2.797 (x2=106.288, df=38), CFI=.977, TLI=.967, RMSEA=.078 (90% CI=.061, .096). Examining the various path coefficients revealed that coach autonomy support had a positive effect on the athlete’s caring climate, basic psychological needs, and sport commitment. The caring climate had a significant effect on basic psychological needs, but did not have a statistically significant effect on sport commitment. Finally, basic psychological needs had a positive effect on sport commitment. CONCLUSIONS Coach autonomy support fosters a caring climate, and athletes who are able to perceive this are able to dedicate themselves to their sport since their basic physiological needs are met. Therefore, coaches should use appropriate coaching strategies to enhance athletes' autonomy and foster a caring climate, as both are essential factors for meeting athletes' psychological needs and promoting sport commitment.

14 The Development of Emotional Intelligence Scale in Sport Coaching

Abstract

Purpose The purpose of this study was to develop the Emotional Intelligence Scale in Sport Coaching(EISSC) based on the emotional intelligence trait model. Methods The participants were 236 professional sports coaches by the purposive sampling methods via e-mails. 48 preliminary items were developed by literature review among expert panels. Then, a total of 40 items were selected after the item-analysis. Exploratory factor analysis was conducted for construct validity and criterion validity was evaluated by Person’s correlation with coaching efficacy scale and general emotional intelligence scale. An internal consistency, Cronbach's alpha coefficient, was used to see the reliability. Results The results of exploratory factor analysis presented a six sub-structure factors (Self-awareness, Awareness of others, Optimism, Utilization of emotion, Emotion regulation, Social skills) with 20 items, which explained 68.49% of the total variance. Criterion-related validity was supported by correlations with in coaching efficacy(r=.713) and general emotional intelligence(r=.647). Reliabilities were secured with Cronbach’s alpha coefficient .854 for the total 20 items. Conclusions The EISSC can be used to provide an valid measure of emotional ability of coaches in sport.

15 How and When is a Sport Team Logo Effective?: Focusing on the Mediating Effect of Dimensions in the Stereotype Content Model and the Moderating Effect of Gender and Contextual Cue

Abstract

PURPOSE This study first investigated how different types of sport team logos (emblem vs. mascot) influence consumer behavior through warmth and competence and then examined the moderating effects of consumer characteristics (gender) and contextual cues (perceived competence) on these relationships. METHODS A nationwide sample of adults age 20 was selected using quota random sampling based on gender. A 2 (logo type: emblem vs. mascot) × 2 (gender) × 2 (contextual cue: high competence vs. low competence) experimental design was employed, with participants randomly assigned to each group. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) with Mplus 8 was employed to assess the measurement model’s reliability and validity, and hypothesis testing was conducted through structural equation modeling (SEM), measurement invariance tests, and multigroup SEM analysis. RESULTS Findings indicate that anthropomorphized mascot logos, compared to emblem logos, generate more positive attitudes and psychological responses (warmth and competence) to the team. Gender’s moderating effect on the relationship between logo type and consumer perceptions (warmth and competence) was not significant, but contextual cues’ moderating effect was partially significant. CONCLUSIONS This study highlights of perceived warmth and competence’s crucial role in shaping consumer attitudes toward sports teams through logo design. These findings offer meaningful insights for sports teams and marketers to optimize branding strategies and enhance fan engagement.

16 Exploring and Analyzing ESG Activity Evaluation Factors of Sports Brands using Delphi and AHP Techniques

Abstract

PURPOSE This study aimed to identify and establish ESG activity assessment factors tailored for sports brands, offering a foundational framework for fostering sustainability within the sports industry. METHODS A Delphi survey was conducted between December 1, 2022, and January 31, 2023, involving university professors, sports brand executives, ESG researchers, sports marketing majors , a nd sports brand influencers. Data were analyzed using SPSS WIN 24.0 and MS Excel, encompassing research subject classification, consistency verification, and empirical analysis. RESULTS The assessment of ESG activity evaluation factors of sports brands revealed that governance, social, and environmental dimensions ranked in descending order of relative importance. Among specific evaluation criteria, the adoption of employee ethics regulations was deemed paramount in the governance evaluation area, while support for stakeholder welfare and social well-being took precedence in the social evaluation category. In the environmental sector, the production and delivery of eco-friendly, durable products held the highest significance. Further analysis, considering the weighted priorities of all evaluation factors, emphasized the importance of factors, such as the adoption of employee ethics regulations, support for stakeholder welfare, social well-being, and the production and delivery of eco-friendly, durable products. Conversely, disclosure of company information and issues, support for the underprivileged, and general shareholders' meeting or agenda for the protection of shareholders' rights and interests ranked lower. CONCLUSIONS In summary, this study validates the role of governance (G) aspects within ESG activities for sports brands, alongside environmental and social dimensions. It highlights the importance of a balanced ESG framework, particularly in an era marked by heightened social responsibility awareness among consumers. Prioritizing governance in marketing strategies not only distinguishes sports brands but also necessitates impactful promotion and advertising efforts.

17 Analysis of interdisciplinary Research Knowledge Map in Sports Social Science of Korea

Abstract

To examine the flow of knowledge structure in Korean journals of sport and social sciences over the last 10 years, this study has derived a knowledge map by conducting community analysis, one of the social network analysis methods, on Korean Journal of Sports Industry Management, Korean Journal of Sport Pedagogics, Korean Journal of Sport Sociology, Korean Journal of Sport Psychology and Korean Journal of Leisure and Recreation. According to the analysis result, the integrated knowledge map for the field of sport and social sciences was classified into 5 groups and these groups were derived to be similar to the knowledge structure of the keyword groups for the research topics of the five journals targeted by this study. Along with this result, at the same time, it has been confirmed that most of the groups shared keywords with each other. Especially, some of the keywords for the research topics of sports industry management have transferred to the research topics of leisure and recreation and those of sport sociology. Sport sociology has been revealed to be closely related to sports industry management and sport psychology. In the case of sport psychology, it has been confirmed that it is related to most of the other groups and the psychological variables for understanding human behavior can be widely used. It shows that leisure and recreation is highly related to sport psychology and sport management in terms of keywords for research topics but it is suggested that it also needs its own independent research topics. Sport pedagogics, by its nature, is an isolated field but interacts with sport psychology and attempts can be made to expand its research topics through an approach based on the concept of pedagogy for physical education.


18 A Bayesian Network Approach to Infer Causality of Sports Spectators' Eco-Friendly Behavioral Intentions

Abstract

PURPOSE This study explores the factors influencing eco-friendly behavioral intentions during sports spectating and infers the causal structure linking each variable to eco-friendly behavioral intentions. METHODS A total of 364 sports fans participated in the survey that collected data on Knowledge of Climate Change (KCC), Awareness of Climate Change (ACC), Attitude of Climate Change (ATT), Subjective Norm of Climate Change (SN), Perceived Behavior Control of Climate Change (PBC), and Behavioral intention to Reduce Single-Use Plastic (INT) during sports spectating. The validity of the measurement was examined through confirmatory factor analysis. Based on the validated data, latent variables’ average scores were reconstructed as input variables for the Bayesian Network, along with demographic characteristics. RESULTS The results of Bayesian network learning indicated that ACC, ATT, SN, and PBC variables directly influence INT. ACC affects ATT and SN, while ACC is influenced by KCC and sex. Conversely, PBC influenced INT but showed no association with the other input variables. SN was found to have the greatest impact on INT during sports spectating, while the influence of PBC was relatively low. CONCLUSIONS The causal structure inferred in the current study using Bayesian network learning provides insights into the previously underexplored relationship structure explaining eco-friendly behavioral intentions of sports fans in the field of sports science. The findings of this study can serve as empirical evidence for sports-related organizations to develop strategies and decision-making processes to promote sustainable sports spectatorship.

19 Exploring the educational meanings of pre-service PE teacher mentors' sports mentoring experience

Abstract

Purpose The purposes of this study were to examine the influence of a formal sports mentoring program on mentors(pre-service PE teachers), and to identify main factors affecting educational growth of the pre-service teachers. Methods Data were generated in this study using: In-depth interviews, mentoring observations, and document resources from 4 mentors and their mentees as research participants. The collected data were inductively analyzed as an iterative process of working back and forth between the data and the categories(Miles & Huberman, 1994). Results The key findings of this study are as follows. First, mentors developed pre-service teachers’ practical knowledge including teaching knowledge, environment knowledge, student knowledge within teaching contexts. Furthermore, they practiced mentee-centered education through sports mentoring not only by mentees but also for mentees. Second, with respect to the factors impacting mentors’ educational growth, there were two main factors; the systematic structure of a program and mentors’ reflexivity. Mentors improved practical knowledge through the circular ‘experiential learning’ phases the sports mentoring program provided. In addition, mentor had valuable opportunities to learn how to care mentees by reflecting on positive and negative influences deriving from interactions with their mentees. Conclusion Potential benefits were embedded in inherent nature of sport and the unique structure of mentoring. sports mentoring can provide experience of learner-friendly teaching distinct from classes of lecture type. It is necessary to be reconsidered as pre-service PE teacher education program with opportunities of other teaching practice.


20 Predicting acceptance intention of sports wearable smart device based on technology acceptance model and theory of planned behavior : The moderating effects of gender

Abstract

Purpose The current study was aimed to examine acceptance intention of sports wearable smart device using the Technology Acceptance Model and Theory of Planned Behavior. Methods Data were drawn from 357 consumers who had experience purchasing sports products. Data were analyzed through frequency analysis, reliability analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, correlation analysis, and structural equation modeling using SPSS 20.0 and AMOS 20.0 program. Results First, perceived ease of use had a positive effect on attitude. Second, perceived usefulness had a positive effect on attitude. Third, attitude had a positive effect on acceptance intention. Fourth, subjective norm had a positive effect on acceptance intention. Fifth, perceived behavioral control did not affect acceptance intention. Sixth, differences of path coefficients between attitude and acceptance intention, subjective norm and acceptance intention were significant according to gender. Conclusion The significance of this research is to provide the basis of positioning strategy for domestic companies of sports wearable smart device.
